The Details
I make these coin bells from 2 Kennedy Half Dollars – the upper coin gets annealed and pressed into an impression die a few times at about 8 tons of pressure, then domed and reduced inside steel dies with brass pushers into shape. The lower coin is center punched, folded and shaped to form the bell skirt – the center punch becomes the clapper. I use 14 AWG copper wire to form the handle and solder everything together. Finally, I clean them up to remove fire-scale, antique them to darken the metals, and then polish em up.
